Obituary for Joe Bravo

Joe Bravo Sr., 94, of Waco, Texas (Sand-Town), passed peacefully with his loved ones by his side at his residence. Joe was born on April 7, 1927. He was the first child and son of Marie and John Bravo.

He was a very hard-working man who effortlessly provided for his family. Joe was a veteran who served his country in World War II. Joe worked as a truck driver and route salesman for Budweiser and JAX Beer Distribution, he also worked as a milk receiver for Pure Milk Company over his 50-year career where he made many friends before retiring.

Growing up on 1st Street in Waco Joe enjoyed going to the Fox Theater picture shows, swimming in the Brazos River, eating at Pete’s Café on the Square and biking to where the Waco Motor Mile is located today to visit his then future wife where her parents sharecropped land. His favorite things to do during his earlier adult years was attending and playing in Waco Eagles baseball games, attending local beer joints throughout the city, and deer hunting in Jewitt, Texas. Joe spent his later years ranching, raising pigs, peacocks, cattle, different poultry birds and tending to the Bravo Ranch with the help of his sons while working full time. Joe continued to ranch cattle and frequently visited local stockyards well into his retirement. He also loved attending swap meets with family and visited local venues and festivals, he was always on the move. Joe spent a lot of his late years helping raise his grandchildren and visiting with family and friends.

Joe is preceded in death by his wife, Esther Hernandez Bravo; his mother, Maria Bravo; his father, John Bravo; son, Robert John Bravo; his brothers, Cornelio Bravo, Carlos Bravo, Rueben Bravo; and sister, Rosie Bravo (Gutierrez).

Joe bravo is survived by his sister, Elvira Bravo (Gutierrez); his daughter, Teresa Marie Bravo of Waco, his daughter, Minerva Chavez and husband, Abelino Chavez of Waco; his son, Rudy Bravo, Sr., and wife, Delia Bravo of Waco; daughter-in-law, Rosie Bravo; his son, Ruben Bravo and wife, Janie Bravo (deceased) of Waco; his son, Joe Bravo, Jr. and wife, Frances Bravo of Waco; his daughter, Elvira Bravo of Waco, and daughter, Margie Pike and husband, Jim Pike of Denver; Joe had many grandchildren, Patrick Mayes, Patricia Mayes, Megan Mayes, Andrea Mayes, Roberta Bravo, Sarah Sandoval Gayton, Jonny Sandoval, Rudy Bravo, Jr., Diana R. Urbina, Eduardo Bravo, Michelle Bravo, Vincent Bravo, Michael Bravo, Melissa Bravo Martinez, Rosalinda Bravo, Regina Bravo all of Waco, Jennifer Hamilton, Jamie Pike, Victor and Jenie Rodriguez and more; Joe also had numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. The family would also like to give special thanks to his loving caregiver, Janie Rodriguez.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Mayes, Eduardo Bravo, Rudy Bravo, Jr., Johnny Sandoval, Vincent Bravo, and Michael Bravo.

Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Gonzalez, Jacob Bravo, Robert Joe Torres, and Austin Mayes.

The family would also like to thank Teresa Marie Bravo for taking such good care of Grandpa/Daddy/Joe Jax.

Viewing services will be held from 1-5 PM, Tuesday, March 15th at OakCrest Funeral Home in Waco. Burial services will follow, Wednesday, March 16th at 11 AM, at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco.
