Obituary for Dorothy Allen Steele

Dorothy Allen Steele, 81, of Joplin, MO passed away on April 3, 2021 surrounded by her family.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on April 10 at First Baptist Church, Joplin (4128 Connecticut Joplin MO 64804). Services provided by OakCrest Funeral Home in Waco TX and Mason Woodard Funeral Home in Joplin MO.

Dorothy was born May 5, 1939 in Lancaster, SC to Hoyt and Christine Allen. She graduated from Buford High School in 1957. After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Steele.

After getting married, the couple lived in Ft. Campbell KY, Atlanta GA, Dallas TX and Houston TX before settling in Joplin, MO in 1986.

Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother and a faithful follower of Jesus. She was an excellent cook and a phenomenal gardener, but – unfortunately – didn’t pass either of those traits on to her children! However, what she did pass to them was a faith in Christ, a bright hope for tomorrow, and the priceless knowledge of her unyielding and unconditional love.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Steele of Joplin MO; her son, Jack Steele of Lancaster SC; her brothers Charles Allen and James Allen of Lancaster SC; and her grandson, Paul Saxon, of Hewitt TX.

She is survived by her son, Scott Steele, of Joplin MO; her daughter, Leigh Saxon (and husband Terrill); grandsons, Jack Saxon and Whit Saxon, all of Hewitt TX; her sister, Ruby Estridge; and brother, Buddy Allen, both of Lancaster SC.
